Gourmet local produce and products
Nancy is the ultimate gourmet destination! You will find lollies and sweets, fine patés and hearty winter meals, fine dining restaurants to a slice of mouth-watering quiche. The depth and quality of produce available here is comparable to the depth of the regions history and generosity. There are river fish, game from the water, the plains and the woods as well as pies and tarts…. Nancy will surprise and reward your tastebuds!
Region of woods and rivers, it supplies feathered and furred game both large and small, fresh water fish and mushrooms of all shapes and sizes. Its orchards grow a number of different fruits and vegetables, not just the small golden plum the Mirabelle, which is almost only found in Lorraine!
In Toul, around Metz, and in other parts of Lorraine, some excellent wines are produced, and continue to get better and better.
We can’t forget the Bergamots (and neither can you!):
An exclusive specialty to Nancy, this golden and transparent sweet came to life in the middle of the 19th century. A scrumptious mix of cooked sugar, natural essential oils from the bergamot (a type of orange), cooked by a naked flame, hand cut or with an artisan rolling mill, such are the qualities which earned this little treat its Lable Lorraine IGP, in recognition of its importance to the culture of France. You will find this little hint of Nancy in nearly every sweet shop in town and they are easily vacuum packed and shipped worldwide.
Home of the Macaroon:
Le Macaron de Nancy (Nancy Macaroon) appeared in 1793, owing their origin to two Benedictine Nuns, renamed the ‘Macaroon Sisters’. The secret recipe was carefully guarded and transferred over the centuries. The current custodian continues to give all his attention to this delicious cake. Like the bergamots, they are a great ‘taste’ of Nancy and are easily shipped all over the world.
