Inaugural lecture (Festival du Livre d'Ailleurs) by Ilan Pappé, Israeli historian, professor at Exeter University (UK), director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies, and Elias Sanbar, Palestinian historian, essayist, poet, former Palestinian ambassador to UNESCO.

When the present is a source of violence, history is necessary to understand what is at stake, to decipher the discourse and to outline the prospects for a lasting peace. Ilan Pappé, a leading figure among the new Israeli historians now living in exile in London, will discuss with Elias Sanbar, a major voice for Palestine through his work.

Discussion moderated by Jean-Paul Chagnollaud, Professor Emeritus of Political Science, President of the Institut de recherches et d'études Méditerranée Moyen-Orient (iReMMO), director of Confluences Méditerranée magazine.
