Many soils in Lorraine have been heavily impacted by the steel industry, which was very active over the last century. These activities led to the emergence of numerous areas awaiting reconversion, often referred to as "industrial wastelands". Contrary to popular belief, the soil on these wastelands is a resource that can make a major contribution to accelerating economic, energy and ecological transition.
With this in mind, GISFI (Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique - requalification des territoires dégradés : interdisciplinarité et Innovation) is committed to developing the circular economy (recycling, agromining) and supporting the services rendered by these wasteland soils (biomass production, carbon storage, biodiversity) to restore value to often neglected industrial territories. During this talk, you will be presented with a number of studies carried out by the GISFI, illustrating how these environments can be a first-rate resource.
With Pierre FAURE-CATTELOIN, CNRS Research Director at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Environnements Continentaux (LIEC - CNRS/Université de Lorraine) and President of GISFI: Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique - requalification des territoires dégradés : interdisciplinarité et Innovation.
