The era of metals for energy and digital transitions marks a significant revolution, succeeding the various industrial revolutions of the past.
At the heart of these transformations, metals play a central and inescapable role. Green technologies such as solar panels, wind turbines and batteries for electric vehicles rely heavily on metals like lithium, cobalt and nickel.
Similarly, the digital transition relies on a complex infrastructure requiring metals like copper and gold for electronic components. However, for these transitions to really take place, it is imperative to develop responsible metal production chains. This includes sustainable mining practices, rigorous resource management, and respect for the rights of local communities.
At the same time, an efficient circular economy is essential. Recycling metals and reusing existing materials not only reduces pressure on natural resources, but also minimizes the environmental footprint. Thus, the success of energy and digital transitions depends on our ability to integrate responsible and sustainable practices into the metal production chain, guaranteeing an industrial revolution that respects our planet and its inhabitants.
