ADN - Art Dans Nancy is an urban street art route that invites visitors to explore the streets and squares of Nancy while encouraging them to discover art. It includes over 30 street art works. From the old town to Place des Vosges, and from Place Simone Veil to Porte Sainte-Catherine, art, in its many forms, is everywhere and plays a regular part in everyday life.
After a debut showing of the work in Nantes, as part of the 2017 Voyage à Nantes arts festival, the walrus has landed in the Muséum-Aquarium district. This work recalls the story of the American soldier John Steel, who became stuck on the bell tower of the church of Sainte-Mère-Église on 5 June 1944, the eve of the Normandy Landings. Gilbert Coqualane’s artistic approach has always been based on developing a new narrative that destroys former representations. Here, he has made a humorous use of this historical event, replacing the soldier with a life-sized reproduction of a walrus from the Muséum-Aquarium collections.
