In the ruins of war, Eteocles and Polynices, sons of Oedipus, kill each other for the throne of Thebes. Only Eteocles, the legitimate sovereign, will be given a burial. But Antigone, the sister of the two fratricidal warriors, is determined to bury Polynices, whatever the cost... Having already worked on committed female figures such as Frida Khalo and Annie Ernaux, director Laurence Cordier turns her attention to Antigone, the symbol of insubordination. Antigone is a myth that both fascinates and questions. A woman who is supposed to remain silent, suddenly willing to risk her life out of conviction. Irène Bonnaud and Malika Hammou's translation sets a rhythm that is both concrete and powerfully poetic. At a time when the freeing of speech is causing the downfall of living gods, this two-thousand-year-old text continues to resonate through the ages with a furious modernity.
