The Town Hall has had its home in Place Stanislas since the 18th century. Its grand façade displaying the coat of arms of Stanislas and the emblem of the city of Nancy runs along a whole side of the former royal square.
A stone balustrade runs around the top of the building, featuring alternating sculptures of groups of children and fire pots, and trophies of arms in the corners.

The stairway, whose walls are decorated with frescoes by the painter Girardet, leads to the Salon Carré, an Italian-style salon which precedes the Grand Salon.
