A tribute to the masters of the past, Ottorino Respighi's joyously descriptive suite invokes the dove, the hen, the nightingale and the cuckoo. The birds, set to music by Louis Beydts, are more a pretext for fantasy and the evocation of a loved one.

As for Sibelius's swan and Vaughan Williams's lark, "no one knows the secret of their distant exiles". This concert invites us to turn our ears to a whole people of song that we urgently need to protect.
