How do you govern when elections can no longer produce a clear, stable majority? This is a highly topical issue, both in France, where parliamentary majorities have been absolute since 1958, and in Germany, where the rise of the extreme right has made it extremely difficult to build coalitions at both federal and Länder level. It raises two main issues: on the one hand, that of a crisis in our democracies, and on the other, that of the recomposition of the political party system. Two experts in political science, Anne Jadot and Georg Wenzelburger, will take a closer look at the two countries to better understand what they have in common, and what makes them different.
During the Tête-à-tête debates, a German and a French speaker are invited to discuss a topical issue. Tête-à-tête debates take place twice a year, alternately in Lorraine and Saarbrücken.
The event is organized in partnership with the Université de Lorraine and CIERA (Centre interdisciplinaire d'études et de recherches sur l'Allemagne), as part of its Hors les murs program. It is supported by the Pôle France of Saarland University and the Institut d'Études Françaises de Sarrebruck.
