At the dawn of Art Deco
Julien Gérardin (1860-1924), a photographer from Nancy, is the author of a considerable body of work. A true pioneer of color, he produced over 6,000 autochromes, the first color photographic process. A member of the Société centrale d'horticulture de Nancy, he immortalized numerous scenes of gardens, parks, Lorraine landscapes and women in nature.

ENSAD (École nationale supérieure d'art et de design de Nancy) now owns his exceptional collection of autochromes, housed in its library.
These unique photographs, taken between 1907 and 1919, bear witness to an era, using a technique that would later become very fashionable during the Belle Epoque.
The Botanical Garden exhibition, set in the heart of the Rose Garden, will highlight a number of plant-inspired works, with portraits prefiguring the Art Deco aesthetic.
