The grandchildren of Paul Nicolas and the City of Laxou have chosen to pay tribute to Paul Nicolas (1875-1952), a master glassmaker of dazzling talent, a figure often overlooked by the general public, yet central to the history of 20th-century decorative arts, who was also a town councillor, then Mayor of Laxou from 1903 to 1905, and again a town councillor until 1908. Through a unique selection of exceptional pieces - vases, paintings, sketches, photographs and archival documents - the exhibition offers a fresh reading of his creations, placing them in their historical, social and personal context. It retraces his militant actions, his network of artistic and political friendships, and the positions he took.
