The city of Nancy, in partnership with the CNRS, offers themed tours and lectures on the different materials that inspired the designers of the ephemeral garden.
The beginning of the 20th century saw the arrival of concrete, a material that's easy to work with and can be used to create more or less complicated shapes in a very short space of time. Used in conjunction with metal reinforcement (reinforced concrete), it also proved to be a material of choice for absorbing stress in building structures. Art Deco architects seized this new opportunity in their designs.
With Jean-Michel Mechling, Professor, Civil Engineering Department, IUT Nancy Brabois, Head of the Materials for Civil Engineering Team, Institut Jean Lamour (CNRS Université de Lorraine) and Charlotte Mercier, Senior Lecturer, Civil Engineering Department, IUT Nancy Brabois, Materials for Civil Engineering Team, Institut Jean Lamour (CNRS Université de Lorraine).
