"Ginczanka's work resembles a cosmic phenomenon - where precocity and maturity have come together in a time other than that of history. Zuzanna Ginczanka was the pen name chosen by Zuzanna Polina Ginzburg (in Polish, Gincburg). Born in Kiev in 1917 to Jewish parents from the Odessa region, she had set the Warsaw of poets alight, before fleeing the war to Lwów, then dying in Krakow, arrested and shot by the Nazi occupiers after a five-year hunt, in May 1944. She was twenty-seven years old. "The Centaurs" was the only collection of Zuzanna Ginczanka's poems published during her lifetime, in 1936. The other poems appeared in magazines, in the press or, for the most part, were found in her manuscripts.
With "Les Centaures & autres poèmes" (published in 2024 by La Barque), in Isabelle Macor's translation from Polish, we are finally able to discover in book form the poetic work of Zuzanna Ginczanka, recognized by the greatest poets of her time (Gombrowicz, Tuwim...) as a poet of precocious genius.
For this first cultural event of the season, the Nancy France-Pologne association is pleased and honored to welcome Isabelle Macor, who has just been awarded the Prix de Poésie Robert Ganzo (autumn 2025 session), in the Translator-Poet category. The evening will feature poems by Zuzanna Ginczanka, with bilingual readings by Isabelle Macor and Monika Rozumek, and musical illustrations by the Trio du Pont de Pierre (with Régine Colin on piano and cello, Christiane Galeski-Wild on violin and Alain Quéré on viola).
A book-signing session for "Les Centaures & autres poèmes" will be held, in partnership with the L'Autre Rive bookshop. The evening will conclude with a drink.
In partnership with the CERCLE laboratory, Université de Lorraine.
Participation required for non-members.
