La Veilleuse returns for its fifth edition!
For nearly four years, the En Verre et Contre Tout company has been exploring the notion of the Other as part of its future creation, L'Histoire d'un.e Autre, premiering this year at La Veilleuse. The Other is the person who has been discriminated against because of his or her skin color, origin or physical characteristics. It's also the person who, throughout history, has been exhibited at fairs, universal or colonial exhibitions.

From the 19th century onwards, the West established a hierarchy of human beings, artificially constructing the notion of "race" and, with it, the foundations of racism that still plague our society today. This repression of the Other has endured over the centuries, and is perpetuated in various forms.

This edition of La Veilleuse will delve into the heart of these issues, looking in particular at the history of colonization and its still visible consequences in the contemporary world. We'll be looking at the impact of the past on today's society and on our individual lives.

On the program: three shows, including school sessions, a storytelling aperitif, a film and an artist residency. We'll also be taking advantage of the visit of the Papierthéâtre company to offer, in addition to their show Noir ou blanc, a workshop and exhibition devoted to paper theater.

At the LEM, we are committed to making culture accessible to all. That's why all our shows are free of charge, and why we're keen to open up our program to schoolchildren, to raise their awareness of these themes.

All performances are also available on the Pass Culture. (Duo offer available)
