Nancy was the crucible of Art Deco in Europe during the Roaring Twenties. This architectural style, which was also reflected in furniture, was born around 1910. It flourished immediately after the Great War and throughout the first half of the 20th century. Sophisticated and uncluttered, it continues to inspire many architects and designers today, with its emphasis on line rather than curve. An inventory carried out in 2014 to estimate its wealth revealed that the ducal city boasted almost 800 Art Deco buildings and its conurbation more than 1,300. Among the most emblematic are the Museum-Aquarium de Nancy, the grand hall of the Hôtel de Ville, the auditorium in the Parc de la Pépinière, the Villa Bichaton, the former Faculty of Pharmacy, the façade of the former Majorelle store and the Institut dentaire.
