Stroll through the Jardin Éphémère on Place Stanislas, decked out in Art Deco colors, discover the exhibition Nancy 1925, an experience of modern life at the Musée des Beaux-Arts and marvel at the Saint-Nicolas festive parade, which gives pride of place to the Roaring Twenties, to round off a year rich in events and discoveries around Art Deco.
Quarrelling modernities in the inter-war years. A popular fashion in the 1920s-1930s and now a recognized heritage, Art Deco was vilified by most commentators in Nancy at the time. Deemed too modern by some, not modern enough by others, it failed to convince any of them. At the time, the local press was full of colorful expressions mocking the public, architects and clients who had given in to this new taste. The lecture, hosted by Gilles Marseille, will be followed by a signing of his book "Nancy Art déco: Huit balades architecturales à travers la métropole" (Nancy Art Deco: Eight architectural strolls through the metropolis), republished to coincide with Métro'folies.
