In the pantheon of German Romanticism, Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) embodies the elegance and balance between classical tradition and innovation. Composer, pianist and conductor, he marked his era with his precocious genius and acute sense of melody.

His Violin Concerto in E minor (1844), dedicated to his friend Ferdinand David, is a jewel in the crown of the Romantic concerto repertoire, with its melancholy, passionate solo melody played without orchestral introduction, breaking with the conventions of the time.

Symphony No. 4 "Italian" (1833) is both a fresco of sound and a vibrant tribute to the light, folk dances and vitality of the South. Mendelssohn creates a beautiful contrast of effects between the recollected nostalgia of the central movement and the saltarello finale, which takes the listener on a wild ride.
