Nancy’s opera house in Place Stanislas opened in 1919. It is an Italian-style theatre, a pastiche of an 18th century opera house. On 1 January 2006, the French Ministry for Culture and Communication awarded it Opéra National status. “Opéra de Nancy et de Lorraine”, as it was then called, joined Lyon, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Montpellier opera houses to become the fifth Opéra National in the French provinces.
This distinction is full recognition of the quality of the artistic work of Opéra National de Lorraine and the skills of its teams.
